Fun Photo Friday - Nothing New?
I opened up my picture folder to find that I had not put anything new in there since last week. How sad is that? Even sadder is the fact that I don't think I have taken very many pictures this last week because I think the batteries on my camera died. I know we tried taking some last weekend while decorating the tree so I am in search of those. I found 45 pictures on memory card 1... now to see if there is anything good. Memory card 2 had only 28 pictures on it... and I think I just saw some halloween pictures uploading... hmmm, what is on that card? Seems to be taking awhile... oh, must be videos from Sara's birthday and just pure randomness from Kadie playing with the camera.
Is it Sunday?
This is what I have heard from my four year old for the last week. She knows that on Sunday we are opening presents and leaving to go to Ohio after I get off work. She has also seen me packing and wrapping presents so she knows it is getting closer. She gets up every.freakin.morning and asks "Is it Sunday?" I tell her no, she argues a minute and then goes on about her day after being satisfied that no, it is not Sunday.
Today, though, the conversation was with her dad... and went a little differently.
Kadie: "Is today Sunday?"
John: "No, it's Friday."
Kadie: "Nuh uh, it's Sunday." and she continues to argue with him
John: "No, today is Friday. Sunday is in two days."
Kadie: "Then why is the sun up?"
John was stumped... he had no answer for her. Gotta love kids and their logic.

R.A.O.K.
That is what the acronym savvy would call a "Random Act Of Kindness"
After posting about the selfishness of my family I was rewarded with a r.a.o.k. about an hour ago. I was sitting in the drive thru at Chick Fil A. I had ordered the kids' dinner because I was not cooking and I wanted ice cream. This would save me the hassle later and they could just get a snack before bed. I see this lady get out of her car and think, "What the heck is she doing?" as she walks up to my window.
Apparently she saw the writing on my windows (from July) and knew we were a military family. She wanted to show her appreciation with a small token in the form of a $5 Chick Fil A gift card. I thanked her and promptly put that card towards our dinner. How nice of her! Someone we didn't even know, someone that was not planning on giving away her gift card. She just gave it to us in a split second decision after reading the writing on the windows. It just goes to show that there are people out there that are not only thinking of themselves this holiday season.
*Note: I talked to my mom about hosting at her house for her side of the family to which she replied... "I can't afford it. And there was something mentioned about just the siblings and spouses going out to dinner." Ummm, what is there to afford, it's always potluck and going out to dinner will be cheaper than that? And what about the rest of the family, like me, and my husband and all the kids? Are we not important enough to get together with ONCE a year. Oh well, like Tiffany posted in my comments... one less thing I have to juggle.*

Tis the Season for Selfishness
My mom's side of the family used to get together every Christmas night. At one point we would even do a gift exchange. Some where along the line someone decided the gift exchange was too much for them and that was dropped. It then turned into a potluck with the family where everyone got a Christmas card/gift from Grandma. Grandma is now in Florida but she sends a little something for everyone every year and we meet at someone's house so the kids can open their gifts and see people that we haven't seen all year. The potluck is usually a good enough reason to go. Lately though, it seems no one wants to host such an ordeal anymore. Only two of the five living siblings are able to host but their houses are out in the sticks. I usually try to make an appearance but juggling between families was always hard... I still made an effort. My mom rarely could come anymore and it seemed no one really even had any fun. Last year we just sat around watching the kids run around, eating munchies with football on in the background. No one really talked... we ate, we opened presents, and we said our goodbyes.
This year, I have learned, that there will be no gathering with my mom's side of the family. I actually am not even sure how I really feel about this. The reasons they aren't getting together are purely selfish... no one wants to host. The two that always host don't want to do it again. Really? Is it that much of a pain to have your family over ONE freakin' day out of the year. I realize it is a big family but really, you never see these people anymore. Two others have houses that are way too small to host and fitting this family in there just would not work so that is not an option. I'm not sure why my mom doesn't host... she probably has to work and besides, would anyone really come? Probably not.
Another option might be to have a get together at a restaurant somewhere on a night other than Christmas but again, would anyone really come? My guess is no. Getting to Know You *CHRISTMAS EDITION*
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Both... depends on the item and where it is going. I try to condense as much as I can when driving to Toledo so most everything is wrapped.
2. Real tree or Artificial? Artificial... I want to get a pre-lit one but I love our big full tree that my grandma gave us. One of these years I do want to do the real tree thing though, probably when the kids are older.
3. When do you put up the tree? Usually the weekend after Thanksgiving. This year it took longer cause I haven't been in the Christmas spirit and we really haven't had the time. It was finally decorated on Sunday.
4. When do you take the tree down? After we get home from Toledo
5. Do you like eggnog? Nope
6. Favorite gift received as a child? My sister and I got bikes one year... I remember sneaking down stairs and seeing them before we were supposed to
7. Hardest person to buy for? Myself
8. Easiest person to buy for? Lexi, I could find something for that girl every time I am at the store.
9. Do you have a nativity scene? We do, it has been out all year, on our mantel

18.Travel at Christmas or stay home? We go to Ohio and visit about 12 different places... ok, so not quite that many, but it feels like it sometimes. We haven't had a real Christmas morning in quite a few years.
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, Blitzen, Rudolph, Olive and Chet (Olive = Olive the Other Reindeer, and Chet is from The Santa Clause 3)
20. Angel on the tree top or a star? We have both... this year we did the star to match the lights
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Both... we usually do gifts Christmas even at my in laws, not sure about this year though. And they usually get at least a couple things Christmas day. The Sweetest Words Spoken
As we were doing Christmas stuff this evening (decorating stockings, doing crafty ornaments and such, and decorating the tree) Lexi made the comment that Christmas was only 10 days away. I corrected her, since there are 11 days, or if you want to get technical 10 days 2 hrs and 36 minutes. Anyways, I then said that I wish we could rewind time and forget that Christmas ever happened (in regards to the presents and decorating and such, not the birth of J.C.) since I was not in the Christmas spirit. Jacob then says, "Well you better be, cause we can't have Christmas without you." I seriously could not contain the tears. That has got to be the sweetest thing that has come out that boys mouth EVER! Even sweeter than I love you which has become more like a habit or formality for some. That boy can drive me from crazy to delighted in a fraction of a second. He will make someone very happy one day (and I am sure she will think "Can't live with him, can't shoot him" too!). We couldn't do Christmas without you either, buddy!

Fun Photo Friday - My Sara Bear is 2!!!
Today is Miss Sara's birthday! As of I cannot believe how fast time has flown by. My oldest will be 8 in January and now my baby is 2. This also means I now have two 2 year olds for the next 18 days. It also means that this is the longest I have gone without getting pregnant. The longest gap between my kids is 25 months, which means I was always pregnant by the time my kids were 16mths old. That is some crazy shit. At least now that isn't the case and unless my husband has some super sperm that can bypass a vasectomy then this baby is my last. So my last baby is a 2 year old. Lord help me! LoL

4 Something
Apparently that is what time my daughter thought was an appropriate time to get up and get dressed for school.
John woke up about 6 and saw her snuggled on the couch dressed from head to toe... including shoes. I just got up at 730 and saw she was still awake. I asked her what time she got up and she said "Four something I guess." She must have saw the look of horror on my face because she got defensive... "WHAT?! I was awake, what was I supposed to do?"
Hmmm, how about go back to sleep like any normal, sane person would do. LoL

Quantum of Smokers?
John and I went to see the new 007 movie tonight since he had free tickets and a friend offered to babysit. The movie itself was ok... I am definitely not a Bond girl though. My biggest issue didn't come from the movie though.
These two guys decided about half way through the movie that they were going to light up a cigarette. The smoke was so bad that I was coughing more than I have been and I was having a hard time breathing. So I decided to be a tattle tale and the manager came in to tell them to put it out.
Later I look over and I see them tipping up a beer. Nice. To top it off, as the movie was ending the one guy got up and was really loud as he fell into the stair rail. I think he was going to pee out the side door. Not really the way I wanted to spend my evening... watching a movie I didn't care for (but I went so I could chill with my hubby) and having a coughing fit. Hopefully you will have a better experience if you go see it.
It definitely wasn't a bad movie and with all the crashing and shooting and blowing up, it makes it a good one to see on the big screen.

Christmas Party
Last week we had a small Christmas party at a friend's house. The kids loved their gifts and the cookies were scrumptious. Kadie got a three piece doll set that included a stroller, a high chair and a play pen. Adam got a Cars car that revs, talks and goes. Sara got a talking Elmo phone. That girl is crazy for phones. All three of them loved all three toys. They loved them so much that the baby doll stuff is already falling apart and who knows where the other two toys are. Seriously though, thanks girls... they did love their toys.

Movie Review Monday - Lots of 'Em
I have seen more movies in the last couple of weeks than I think I have seen in the last 6 months LoL I even got to see one at the theaters and am going back this week to see another (this time with the hubby)!
Let me see if I can remember what all I have seen. The Spiderwick Chronicles, I finally watched it after having it here from Netflix for like 6wks. John and I watched Fool's Gold together, we both liked it... I think he may have more than I did, heehee! While John was on staff duty I watched Made of Honor since I knew he really wouldn't care about that. On Wednesday after Mom's Night Out with some friends, we went to see Four Christmases with two of John's free tickets he won by answering James Bond Trivia. He said it was ok as long as we used the other two to go see Quantum of Solace (which we will be this week). It was very nice of him. My kids have watched Wall - E but I still haven't see it and John watched NCIS Season 5 disk 1 FINALLY!!! So now we are waiting on disk 2 for him, and I believe Leatherheads is the next one on my queue although, I'm thinking I just bought that on Black Friday. Shhh, it might be a Christmas present that I forgot about HAHAHAHA! Oops, oh well. Maybe I will watch Wall-E this week and then I can do Movie Review Monday on that and Quantum of Solace. Now on with the reviews...
Spiderwick Chronicles: Interesting movie. Kind of scary at some parts. A movie for the entire family... has something for everyone. It follows a family that moves into an old relatives house. One of the children uncovers a field guide that is not meant to be read unleashing trouble on everyone in the house. The kids must set out to stop what they started and get everything back the way it was. My kids absolutely LOVE this movie. They all were very sad when I sent it back. This will definitely be one we buy on DVD. It keeps the kids entertained which is always a major plus when sitting down to watch a movie. I would rate this a 5 (Loved It!) on Netflix for no other reason than my kids loved the heck out of it. I'm more in the Really Liked It crowd.
Fool's Gold: An estranged couple find themselves pulled back together in search of a treasure they had devoted their entire relationship to. Full of awkward moments, witty comments and clutzy accidents. Let's not forget the undeniable romance factor that has to be thrown in or else this would not be a good chick flick. John really liked it, as did I. Definitely one to watch again. 4 out of 5 stars as I think it could have been much funnier. I will give it credit for not being as predictable as it could have been though. Major props there.
Made of Honor: This movie is about a platonic friendship between Tom & Hannah (played by Patrick Dempsey & Michelle Monoghan) He is a serial dater and she wants to get married only she hasn't found the right one, until now. Tom realizes he is in love with Hannah and before being able to tell her she announces her engagement and asks him to be her maid of honor. Not wanting to lose her, he agrees but enlists the help of his friends to make him the best maid of honor ever in an attempt to woo Hannah and stop the wedding. (Sometimes I'm not very good at summarizing a movie so I got my inspiration from IMDb. Check them out for anything movie related!) I thought it was a pretty good movie. It wasn't that great, but it could have been much worse. Worth renting though. Quite a few funny parts thrown in with the romantic entanglements. 3 out of 5 stars. I probably wouldn't buy it for myself but if someone else wanted to watch it or bought it for me, I would watch it again.
Four Christmases: Funny movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn. A couple that both want nothing more than to just be themselves the way they are without marriage or kids gets turned around from their usual Christmas in a tropical place away from their families finds themselves having to visit both sets of divorced parents in one. That means Christmas with his dad, her dad, his mom and her mom and the rest of the dysfunctional families all in one LONG day. Their relationship is put to the ultimate test. 4 out of 5 stars for me. I really liked it. It could have been much funnier, which would have made me love it. All in all, it was a pretty original movie but something that so many people can relate to as they deal with the same things every Christmas. Maybe one of these days we can SKIP Christmas.
Speaking of skipping Christmas... here is another review for you...
Christmas with the Kranks: I watched this I think last year but I thought now would be the perfect time to review it. Starring Tim Allen & Jamie Lee Curtis this movie follows a couple that decides to fore go the loads of money they spend on Christmas every year and use that money to go on a tropical vacation. Their daughter is away at college with no plans of coming home so they see no harm in skipping Christmas. That means no Christmas party, no gifts, no decorations and definitely no Frosty on the roof which sets off the entire neighborhood. At the last minute plans change and they have to bust their butts to pull off Christmas after all. Just thinking about the movie I am laughing... very funny. Loved it!

I would rate this a 5 (Loved It!) on Netflix for no other reason than my kids loved the heck out of it. I'm more in the Really Liked It crowd.
Fool's Gold: An estranged couple find themselves pulled back together in search of a treasure they had devoted their entire relationship to. Full of awkward moments, witty comments and clutzy accidents. Let's not forget the undeniable romance factor that has to be thrown in or else this would not be a good chick flick. John really liked it, as did I. Definitely one to watch again. 4 out of 5 stars as I think it could have been much funnier. I will give it credit for not being as predictable as it could have been though. Major props there.
Made of Honor: This movie is about a platonic friendship between Tom & Hannah (played by Patrick Dempsey & Michelle Monoghan) He is a serial dater and she wants to get married only she hasn't found the right one, until now. Tom realizes he is in love with Hannah and before being able to tell her she announces her engagement and asks him to be her maid of honor. Not wanting to lose her, he agrees but enlists the help of his friends to make him the best maid of honor ever in an attempt to woo Hannah and stop the wedding. (Sometimes I'm not very good at summarizing a movie so I got my inspiration from IMDb. Check them out for anything movie related!) I thought it was a pretty good movie. It wasn't that great, but it could have been much worse. Worth renting though. Quite a few funny parts thrown in with the romantic entanglements. 3 out of 5 stars. I probably wouldn't buy it for myself but if someone else wanted to watch it or bought it for me, I would watch it again.
Four Christmases: Funny movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn. A couple that both want nothing more than to just be themselves the way they are without marriage or kids gets turned around from their usual Christmas in a tropical place away from their families finds themselves having to visit both sets of divorced parents in one. That means Christmas with his dad, her dad, his mom and her mom and the rest of the dysfunctional families all in one LONG day. Their relationship is put to the ultimate test. 4 out of 5 stars for me. I really liked it. It could have been much funnier, which would have made me love it. All in all, it was a pretty original movie but something that so many people can relate to as they deal with the same things every Christmas. Maybe one of these days we can SKIP Christmas.

Christmas with the Kranks: I watched this I think last year but I thought now would be the perfect time to review it. Starring Tim Allen & Jamie Lee Curtis this movie follows a couple that decides to fore go the loads of money they spend on Christmas every year and use that money to go on a tropical vacation. Their daughter is away at college with no plans of coming home so they see no harm in skipping Christmas. That means no Christmas party, no gifts, no decorations and definitely no Frosty on the roof which sets off the entire neighborhood. At the last minute plans change and they have to bust their butts to pull off Christmas after all. Just thinking about the movie I am laughing... very funny. Loved it!
Lost in Life
That about sums up the reason I have been MIA lately. I have just been so lost in life right now it is crazy. I know I mentioned before about moving and Christmas and work and just being a mom and a wife taking up so much time but jeez... I have been so busy when I'm busy that it is making me tired and cranky when I am not busy and even though there are 12 trillion things I should/could be doing, I just do nothing because it is so much easier and less tiring than doing anything at all (besides the basics of course). Even something as simple as coming on here to post some pictures or some movie reviews has become a task that I could not bring my lazy bones to commit to.
Today though, I would like to get a bit caught up. Look for a Fun Photo Friday (on a day other than Friday, probably today). Plus I have tons of movies to review today as well. Also look for some updates about moving... or not (not sure I ever said that here, if I did I apologize for the repeat). And I apologize for not being a good blogger!
