In My Email - Part 2

I check my email today to have an email from the service manager over at Southern Motors Honda. I had emailed back to find out what my options were for cutting costs on the maintenance. I also asked about using the 25% coupon I received in my email. Here is the response back...

Mrs. W.

Hi my name is Brian and i am one of our service managers in the service dept. There are few options to the 30k service.
My suggestion would be do a minor service which includes,
oil and filter change
inspect and adjust the brakes and flush the entire brake system
battery service
replace the cabin air filter
replace the engine air filter
replace the frt wiper inserts
lube all the windows and doors and do a multi point inspection
rotate the tires
This service is $326.80 but Iwould strongly reccomend to do the transmission service also which is $90.00. What that leaves out is the tire balance and 4 wheel alignment.
I would be glad to reserve you a Pilot since that is the largest loaner veh we have. Thanks for opportunity

Ok, so that puts me at $416.80 much lower than the $576 or whatever quoted last time. However, I still wouldn't be able to last an entire day in a Honda Pilot. He also made no mention of the coupon I referenced. Guess I will just bite the bullet and pay for the major service when our tax refund comes.

Fun Photo Friday - Flashback

I never got around to posting Lexi's "Through the Years" pictures so I thought I would post some of them today. These are just the ones I have in photo albums that I took pictures of (since we don't have a scanner anymore). I never got a chance to find other pictures of her through the years, so I hope you enjoy these pictures of her from birth to age 2 1/2.

I Had a Dream

That I was eating bbq with the new Commander-in-chief and the First Lady. We were chit-chatting about how down to earth he was, how I voted for McCain and about Sarah Palin's maternity pictures that they (for some reason) had up on their wall. We were eating pulled bbq pork and ribs and just having a good ole time.

Yes, I am weird. I do not know why I was dreaming about our President or maternity pictures of Sarah Palin. Oh, it could be that I made a comment to John's cousin yesterday that if we moved to Alaska that I could commingle with Sarah Palin. HAHAHAHA! But what that has to do with Barack Obama, that just baffles me.

Speaking of moving to Alaska. I found out yesterday that that was an option for us. John was told since he had 2 deployments under his belt that he basically got his choice for his next duty station. There was a wide array of options including Germany, Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona, Ft. Jackson (where he is now), Indianapolis, and Rock Island, Illinois.

There was nothing in Virginia or California or Colorado (that wasn't set to deploy soon). He knew I didn't want to go to Germany, and he didn't really want to either. I always joke about moving to Alaska because there are no bugs in Alaska but he knows I really don't like the cold. The other 5 were his top choices. He called to run them by me and I was thrilled (which I believe is a slight understatement) to finally know where we would be going next.

He rattled off the top 5...

Schofield Barracks, Hawaii
Indianapolis, Indiana (most likely a recruiting position)
Ft. Jackson, SC (which is where he is now)
Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois (situated on the Mississippi river between Iowa and Illinois)
Ft. Hauchuca, Arizona

I quickly listed them in order from most to least preferable, putting Hawaii at the top and Ft. Jackson at the bottom. I just really want out of the south and Columbia area schools are nothing to brag about. Ft. Huachuca was another bottom dweller since I really didn't want to move to the middle of the desert in the middle of July. Not my idea of fun. That left Rock Island and Indianapolis. He didn't really want Indianapolis since he suspected it was a recruiting position which he didn't really want. So there went three of our top five.

I was then put on the spot. I had to decide between Hawaii and Rock Island, and soon (like 15 minutes soon). Now I am sure most of you are screaming at your screen, "DUH! NO BRAINER!" and I must agree... it was pretty much a no-brainer. In fact, I wanted everyone to tell me to go to Hawaii. When does an opportunity like that come around. Who wouldn't want to go to Hawaii on the military's dime. However, we have two cars. The Army would only pay to ship one. The cost of living is extremely high and we are just making ends meet now trying to take care of 5 kids in Savannah. I researched the schools in the area and let's just say they were comparable to the Columbia schools I researched previously. We would be thousands of miles away from family and not able to go home for Christmas. Have you ever tried to find a flight for 7 people? And have you ever seen how packed our car is when we drive to and from Ohio? Yah, that would cost us a fortune (oh, and you can only make a flight reservation for up to 6 people on the same reservation... we have 7 people in our family).

So after calling a few people and going back and forth, mostly with myself... I called John back. He said he was talking to his dad about it. I asked what his dad had to say and basically, everything I already knew. We could live in Bettendorf, Iowa where the schools are excellent. We would be within a school's day of home, just 6 1/2 hours (depending on traffic, that is... I mean, you do pretty much drive through Chicago). The kids would get to see (and play in) snow again. If we wanted to go home it wouldn't cost us 7 plane tickets and extra baggage fees.

The answer was right there, right in front of us. It really was a no-brainer. We would be moving to Iowa. The cut John's orders yesterday and it is official. He reports on July 16. We are going back to the Midwest! Iowa, here we come!

P.S. Come next winter when I am complaining about the weather, just remind me... I do it for my kids. Iowa is a better opportunity for us as a whole. It is not all about nice weather and the perfect spot for our vow renewal. I do not and will not regret my decision.

In My Email

I sent an email to the Service Dept over at Southern Motors Honda because my mom-mobile is in need of a 30,000 mile service. Here is the email I got back...

Hello Brianna,

The 30,000 mile service consists of the following things:

Oil Change
Brake inspection, adjust, and flush
Replace cabin air filter
Replace air filter
Replace wiper blade inserts
Multi-point inspection – Complementary
Tire rotation
4 Wheel Alignment
4 Wheel Tire Balance
Automatic Transmission Service

This service is $576.70 plus tax and shop supplies. If you get the packaged deal you will save $97.10. The 30,000 mile service takes about 6 ½ to 7 hours, but if you make an appt in advance we can get you a loaner car if one is available at no cost to you. If you have any further questions or would like to make an appointment please feel free to email me back or give me a call. Thank You.

REALLY?! $600 for that?! Actually it could even be more than that considering she says "plus tax and shop supplies" and who knows what that will run me. And who are they kidding about giving me a loaner car? The guy told me he would give me a CRV or similar that would hold the carseats when I went for my last oil change. He really must not have looked in my car. There is no way I can drive 5 kids and myself in a CRV. I also love how the multi-point inspection is complimentary, how nice of them seeing as this ONE service is costing me as much as my van payment.

Snuggie! The WTF Blanket!

This commercial comes on about a million and one times a day telling us how cool the Snuggie is. My kids are infomercial junkies and anything they see they think we NEED to get. They go nuts anytime this particular commercial comes on.

Yesterday we were in Bed, Bath and Beyond and guess what we see! Yes, you've got it, the Snuggie! Kadie begs me to buy it but I refuse. Who really needs a Snuggie anyways? Then we were in Walgreens and guess what she saw there... yup... the Snuggie. My god, are they really selling that well?!

Granted, the thought of it intrigued me. I could be completely warm and still type on the computer. I could reach for the remote or my drink without getting cold. But really people, someone is making off of something they didn't even invent. One day someone decided to put their robe on backwards and then a lightbulb went off somewhere and now we have the Snuggie.

And if you ever thought of buying one... take a look at this video. Freakin' hilarious (and not kid friendly).

Don't Forget!

Now is your chance to win a book in my 300th post giveaway! Leave a comment over on that post, post a link on your blog and come back Friday to see if you are one of the lucky winners. I have added in a third book, Marley & Me, to be given away to another lucky reader. The winner will get their choice of book, if you were sent here by someone that wins then you will get second choice. The third book will be given to someone at random. You can't win if you don't post!

I Just Saved a Bunch of Money...

by shopping at The Children's Place!!! TCP is having a MONSTER of a sale!!! Everything I bought yesterday was $5.99 and under. I got tons of stuff for the kids. Some for now, some for next winter. I could have spent way more than the $126 I did spend. My hubby was thankful that I didn't though and while I love shopping for my kids, they really don't NEED that many more clothes. I am sure come next winter (depending on where we are) they may need lots of stuff but I just can't spend the money now and try and guess what will fit them then. I am already thinking that both Adam and Sara will be in 4s next year, however, at the rate Sara is growing I wouldn't be surprised if she made it to a size 4 before Adam did. She already wears anywhere from a 24mths (which seem to be getting too tight and too short) to a 3t (which usually fit fine in the waist but are too long).

Anyway, on to my savings... here is what I got yesterday...

For Lexi
1 pair of corduroy pants - $5.99
1 pair of khaki sparkly pants with belt - $5.99
1 long sleeve shirt, green with gold hearts - $5.99
1 striped sweater - $5.99
1 velour babydoll zip up hooded sweater - $5.99

For Jacob
1 pair of camouflage cargo pants - $5.99
1 pair of corduroy carpenter pant - $5.99
1 striped sweater - $5.99

For Kadie
1 striped sweater - $5.99
1 long sleeve blue layer tee - $4.99
1 pink/silver plaid jumper - $4.99
1 zip up hoodie - $3.99
1 pair of legging type pants to match hoodie - $4.99

For Adam
1 striped sweater - $4.99
1 thick track jacket - $4.99
1 pair of camouflage pants - $4.99
1 pair of windpants - $4.99
1 pair of khaki cargo pants - $4.99

For Sara
1 striped sweater - $4.99
1 silver sparkly skirt - $4.99
1 zip up hoodie with tiny silver heart on chest - $4.99
1 long sleeve shirt with black heart and bow on chest - $4.99

For a grand total of $126.02 after tax, a savings of $253.83

What's For Dinner Wednesday

Today's Menu
Steak
Redskin Potatoes
Green Beans or Broccoli
Crescent Rolls

For the steak, I will make it as usual. I always sprinkle both sides with seasoned salt, onion powder, garlic salt and pepper. I then tenderize with a fork and cook to perfection on our George Foreman grill. I like my steak somewhere between medium and medium rare. I usually cook the kids' a little longer so it is more medium to medium well. If I over cook them though they get too dried out and then we need to use A1.

The potatoes are going to be cut in quarters, coated with EVOO and sprinkled with salt. I will bake them in foil. Mmm, sounds so yummy. I've never made them like this before. I usually only use redskins with my roast but since I have some that need used up, this is how it's going to be.

If I have broccoli I will make that, I'm not sure if I do. I will coat those in EVOO as well, and then sprinkle with garlic salt and bake. Rachel Ray's oven roasted broccoli is soooo good! Maybe I will toss the potatoes and the broccoli together. Kill two birds with one stone... hmmm.

If I don't have broccoli I will just nuke a can of green beans. Drain most of the water, coat with spray butter and sprinkle some seasoned salt or garlic salt on them. My hubby and kids love I don't like green beans so I don't even know what they taste like.

And of course some crescent rolls to round it all out. That is if I don't burn them like I always do.

My 300th Post Giveaway

I want to commemorate my 300th blog post with a giveaway while at the same time decluttering my house and giving an item to a person I know will use it. The rules are few and simple...

1. Leave a comment on my post telling me why you want this item.

2. Post a blog about my giveaway on your blog. I can always use more readers. Then come back and tell me you did that so you get an extra chance to win the giveaway. Send anyone and everyone to my blog.

3. If you were sent here by a friend, tell me their name so if you win, they will win something too.

And the giveaway item is:

A hardcover copy of The Da Vinci Code!!! I found this in a box of yard sale stuff and while I could easily post and sell it on Ebay, I just don't have the time or energy for that. Plus the last time I tried posting something to sell it was being all slow and dumb and driving me crazy. So tell me why you want this book, who you will give it to (if it will be for someone else) or just that you want something free. I don't really care. Humor me.

And the runner up (or person that sent the winner) will receive a hardcover copy of Ya-Yas in Bloom by Rebecca Wells, the author of The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. I have never read either book, but I did see the Sisterhood in the theater. I wasn't crazy about it, but then again I was much younger. I might appreciate it more now.

Anyways, post away... leave a comment on this blog and on Friday I will announce the big winners!!!! Good luck!

Movie Review Monday - A Commercial

Yet another Monday where I didn't see a movie all week. I was trying to catch up on my tv shows, LOST started back up this last week and I was busy being a mom. So as I was sitting here watching tv, a Windex commercial came on the tv. Actually, I was intrigued by a Statefarm commercial that played before that but the Windex commercial made me laugh out loud.

You know how they always have the birds flying into the windows in those commercials? Well, yah, that didn't happen on this one but it was still funny as hell.

Mom walks into the bedroom to wake up her boys. She calls them gently and tells them to get up. They don't listen and she walks out of the room. She walks back in with a bottle of Windex and begins cleaning the window. The voice over says, "Using Windex lets in more natural light." and the boys pop up out of bed and say, "We are gonna be late for school!" and start rushing around to get ready. The birds are watching from their perch on the power lines and as the boys are standing waiting for the bus one of the birds says, "I wonder when she is going to tell them it is Saturday."

OMG I thought I was going to die laughing. It was the funniest commercial I had seen in a really long time. I think that one deserved a Super Bowl spot. Freakin' hilarious. Let me see if I can find it on YouTube. Well crap, I can't find it. You will just have to watch more tv if you want to see it. I saw it on Nick Jr. So chances are you have kids, since you are reading my blog, and chances are even higher that you watch Nick Jr. at some point during the day since Dora and Diego are like crack for babies.

Tagged and a Milestone

First things first, this is my 300th blogpost! It wasn't that long ago that I was posting my 200th blog and now just 3 months later, I am up another 100 posts. Either I have a lot to say, or I have no life? Hmmm LoL

I am in the process of getting rid of a bunch of stuff I no longer use in preparation for packing and moving in 5 months so I will be back later to post a "White Elephant Giveaway" in honor of my 300th blog post. What better way is there to get readers over to my blog? Oh, yah, I could have something of interest to say.

So how about 25 random things about me. I was tagged over at Anna's blog two days ago so now I am following through. Without further ado... let the fun begin!

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a post with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose people to be tagged.

1. While I was pregnant with Adam, I remember driving home from Savannah (we lived in Hinesville at the time), it was dark out and I jokingly said to John, "We should name him Thomas Anthony Nicholas Kellee and call him Tank!" He thought I was crazy and the more I said the name in my head, the more I liked it. It's a good thing we didn't name the little peanut Tank though.

2. My husband (and even friends) have to yell at me to go to the bathroom when I am busy doing something. I dance around the kitchen, stomp my foot, whatever I can until I am finished with the task at hand so I don't pee myself. I'm like a little kid.

3. I don't put DVDs back in their cases. I usually pull them out of the dvd player and throw them on top of it or on top of another case/movie that is already up there.

4. I let my kids drink my coffee

5. I just recently started recycling. I was too lazy to do it before but now they pick it up twice a month so I don't have to sort and take somewhere.

6. I am super critical of myself. I believe I suck at just about everything, including parenting, and I am never happy with the way I look.

7. My longest paying job lasted only 11 months.

8. I always wanted to be a mom. Since I can remember that was my biggest dream. Some days it is a nightmare and I wonder what the hell I was thinking.

9. I have to tap the top of my can in increments of 8 and at least 16 times before I open it even if it is not carbonated and won't explode on me. If I lose count, I start over.

10. John and I still play silly little games in the car like "padiddle" (one head light), "slug bug" (when you see a VW Beetle), "cruiser bruiser" (when you see a PT Cruiser) and "tracker smacker" (when you see a Geo/Chevy Tracker). I hit harder than he does LoL He also makes me kiss him before getting in the car and we have to say "I love you" before getting in the car.

11. I like High School Musical, Hannah Montana, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and many other teeny bopper favorites.

12. I used to be able to sing. I was in choir and show choir and I even went to numerous contests. I scored a 1 (the highest) at one and had to perform my solo at one our choir concerts. I got so nervous my hands were sweating, I was rubbing them on my dress and I forgot my words. I ran off the stage crying. My family didn't let me live it down for a LONG time.

13. My brother and sister used to make fun of my boobs by saying "Chocolate donuts and munchkins!" while holding their hands out in front of them and pretending to squeeze something. It drove me nuts and they knew it!

14. I gave away a ton of baby clothes to families on Freecycle.org You should check it out. It's a great way to get rid of unwanted stuff, keep it out of the landfills and help other people in your community. Much more rewarding than handing it over to the Salvation Army or Goodwill.

15. I have to pee now but I will sit here until this is done before I go.

16. I am going to be a weekday single mom for the next five months while John is in South Carolina going to the Captain's Career Course. For the last month he has been home all day, every day and it has been a great help. I hope I can revert back to being supermom.

17. My 4 yr old walked in on us the other night in a compromising position. Thank goodness it was dark and she has a one track mind... which was bringing her around to my side of the bed to snuggle with me.

18. Thinking of 25 random things about me is a lot harder than I thought.

19. I am a homebody. I would rather stay in. The weather is either too cold, too hot, too rainy, or too buggy for me.

20. I have a thing for disaster movies. Titanic, Twister, Cast Away, Deep Blue Sea, Deep Impact, Armageddon... just to name a few.

21. I have no idea what my natural hair color is.

22. I think about Christmas shopping about 360 days out of the year. The other 5 are spent with family opening the current years presents.

23. I really thought I was going to die when I went to get my wisdom teeth pulled. I also thought I wouldn't ever be able to eat again.

24. I hate art stuff. The worst is playdoh. I still buy them stuff but I rarely let them use it because they dry out the markers, break all the crayons, waste all my paper, spill all the glitter, cut up things that shouldn't be cut up, write on the walls, get themselves all dirty and stress me out.

25. I want to be organized. My pantry has to be perfect. My movies are organized by TV series, then movie series, then our movies, then the kids' movies. They even used to be alphabetized. But my house is a total wreck. Everything is cluttered and I cannot bring myself to get rid of stuff that I think I *might* use. I am working on it though.

*Oh, now I have to Tag some people. Hmmm, I tag Tiffany, Sandi and Trace (and of course anyone else that wants to participate).

Karaoke Party

Yesterday was Lexi's birthday party. Every year she gets a big to-do for her birthday. The girl is spoiled rotten. This year we did a karaoke party with a Hannah Montana, High School Musical and Camp Rock theme. The girls had a great time singing, even Jacob got in on the action. I mostly videotaped but I did manage to get quite a bit of pictures. I did everything myself for this party. I made the cake, I decorated, I did the goody bags and I bought the karaoke machine (that I will be returning because after 2hrs of use it wasn't working properly anymore). I stressed the entire day over the party... the kids weren't listening, the house was a mess and I still had to run to the store 45 minutes before party time. Only three girls made it but with my 5 kids plus John, me and my friend that equalled 11 crazy people under 1 roof for three hours. It was unorganized, chaotic fun!
